Volunteering at Restore!

Last Friday we shut off our phones and email for a few hours and headed to Restore to do some volunteering! (Of course Ashley was still at the office to keep things in line).

We did a training about a week ago where they took us on a behind the scenes tour and gave us some fun facts about the store. I think they said something to the point that they sell so many brass light fixtures in a year to fund a whole Habitat for Humanity house!

When we arrived at Restore on Friday we were assigned the task of going through and sorting all of the lights that had been donated. There were a lot of lights that had been donated haha.

We put our design expertise to use and put some lights together from the pieces that they had and then totally organized the space.  Jodi got competitive (believe it or not) and it became a race to see who could put together lights the fastest. The Elizabeth Erin Designs team had a great time volunteering at Restore and truly encourage everyone to get out and volunteer this holiday season (and every season)! Click here to see volunteer options through Restore.

The Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity ReStore sells new and used home improvement materials to the public at discounted prices. All proceeds from ReStore benefit the mission of Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity to build more homes, communities, and hope right here in the Des Moines area. Many of the materials in the store are donated from the contractors, manufacturers, retailers, and homeowners. (We recommend many of our clients to Restore as a place to donate items from their remodels so we thought it would be a great place to give back our time and get involved in the community). Inventory includes such items as cabinets, lighting and plumbing fixtures, doors, lumber, flooring, paint, windows, and much, much more! Through the donation process, thousands of tons of materials are diverted from the landfill each year. For more information on donating items to the ReStore, please click here. ReStore also stocks large supplies of porcelain tile, laminate flooring, hardwood flooring, roll laminate and carpeting.
