Inspiration from Arizona

We were lucky enough to get to tag along on one of Scott’s work trips to Arizona. The girls and I had never been before and were excited to defrost a little bit from the Iowa winter. I was also excited to eat Mexican food and sample a margarita or three! The girls were most looking forward to having Italian Ice from Rita’s. They were hooked on it when we lived in New Jersey and had not been since 2008 when we moved to Iowa. We let them have a treat every day 🙂

The week before you leave to go anywhere, in my case anyways, is bound to be a disaster with everything going wrong. I will not bore you with the details, you will just have to trust me on this point and I am sure I am not the only one who feels this way!

Regardless of the week prior, we made if out of Iowa and to Arizona. Our first stop was lunch at Olive Garden (Sydney chose, I would rather eat local). Then I scheduled hair cuts, which I’m sure seems crazy, but it feels like there is never enough time to get those in. We went to a new little place in Old Town Scottsdale and it was amazing!

The next day it rained, so we went shopping. We took Scott to work so I got to drive the rental which was a Prius. They are great on gas, but somehow I managed to put us into some sort of mode that kept me from starting the car after we dropped Scott off to work. Thirty-seven minutes later and a crash course from the manual, we were on our way for more shopping fun.

Saturday we decided to drive to Jerom, an amazing little town with all sorts of quirky shops. The highlight for the girls was eating at the Haunted Hamburger! Our last day in Arizona, it was raining, but I was bound and determined to go hiking at Camelback Mountain in Phoenix, so we did! We did not go the entire way, but it was fun and we saw some amazing views.

Please take a moment to look at some of the fun moments I captured during out trip and let us know what you think. Have a fantastic week and only 50 days until April first!

Excited to be at Rita’s. They were trying to talk the owner into opening a store in Des Moines.

I have a weakness for doors and unique textures. I just had to take pictures of these!Screen Shot 2013-02-11 at 1.25.59 PMScreen Shot 2013-02-11 at 1.26.10 PMScreen Shot 2013-02-11 at 1.26.15 PM

A local artist showed the girls how he makes etchings and then print them. It was really interesting. It was amazing that he took the time out of his day to show us the process.

Climbing Camelback Mountain in between rain storms! Everyone dressed comfy on this hike, but not my Hanna. She wore a dress shirt with skinny jeans! I did talk her into at least tennis shoes, after about 20 minutes.
