Our favorite trends for the Holiday season are rustic and sparkly! With the rustic trend you will see a lot of burlap taking place of the normal garland on Christmas trees.

Items that are distressed and anything from nature works great with the rustic look. Tree stumps, birch logs, pine cones, mercury glass for some shine.

You can use pine cones, citrus, cinnamon sticks, wood, pine branches, homemade Christmas ornaments and other simple decorations for rustic Christmas decor. This look is very natural so there will not be a ton of colors throughout the space.  The basic palette includes muted earth tones, slate and brown Christmas colors. Use accent pillows with greys and blues to add in color. Also a deep plum looks great with all of the browns that will be in the space. Consider wrapping presents with packaging paper or grey matte wrapping paper with a burlap bow.

For the sparkly trend of 2013 you will see silver and glitter all over the space. With this trend a lot of white and light blue will dominate while the popular plum color will also accent the style well.

Consider spraying your Christmas tree with a white paint or with some glitter. Shiny and silver christmas tree ornaments will also add sparkle to your tree. The sparkly theme can be combined with the rustic look if you don’t choose one or the other. Stick with white lights with both themes to let the rest of the items be the focus in the space, and don’t forget to turn the fireplace on and light some candles to complete the holiday feeling!

We have many of these decorations available at Barefoot Chic Boutique in Ankeny so check it out for yourself or look around for some great gift ideas!
